Care and MaintenanceCypress Furniture
Monterey Cypress if left untreated will turn a silver grey colour. The Cypress is naturally resistant to rot and will last for many years without treatment. Small cracks (known as checks) will appear, they may come and go (open and close) with changes in the weather as happens with any wood left exposed to the elements.
General Care and Maintenance
The Furniture will benefit from a wash down with soapy water once or twice a year to remove any algae or mildew especially if used on the north side of a building or under trees.
External Use
Monterey Cypress takes a paint or stain finish very well, enabling you to express your own creative ideas.
The use of Quality Garden Furniture stain such as those available from Ronseal and Calbot is probably the best way to treat your furniture. It is possible to get a wide and varied range of colours from Calbot including red, green, blue, purple, orange, yellow etc, as well as more traditional and clear colours.
We have also had excellent results with Calbot Australian Oil.
Internal Use
The Monterey Cypress can be polished using Bri Wax type finish, which brings out the attractive and varied grain of the timber. (follow the instructions on the tin).
Also it is also possible to use any of the products mentioned for external use if you wish to paint your furniture a certain colour.
